ENCHANTING NORTH INDIA - 11 DAYS
This trip allows you to discover the capital of India, Delhi, also to have a “taste” of the atmosphere of Rajasthan by visiting the ancient Haveli painted in the Shekawati style in Mandawa and Jaipur “the Pink City” the city of Agra with the masterpiece most famous art of India the Taj Mahal, Khajuraho famous for its temples with erotic statues and Varanasi the sacred city for Hindus.
DAY 01: ITALY – DELHI
Departure from Italy with a scheduled flight to Delhi. Upon arrival customs formalities, meeting with our representative, and transfer to hotel for overnight.
DAY 02: DELHI
Breakfast at the hotel and Guided tour in Italian of the old city, a charming and picturesque maze of narrow streets, divided into two parts by the Via dell’Argento, a colorful and lively succession of shops and bazaars. In the same area you can visit the Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in the world, built-in 1650. Afternoon visit of New Delhi with its most important monuments: the Qutub Minar complex, the Mausoleum of Emperor Humayun, and the government buildings from the colonial era in front of the India Gate. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 03: DELHI – MANDAWA (285 km. 7 hours approx)
Breakfast at the hotel and around 08:30 transfer to Mandawa, a town founded in the 18th century and fortified by some rich merchant families, Mandawa is famous for its Havelis, merchants’ houses richly frescoed with curious naive paintings and trompe-l motifs ‘oil. Arrive in Mandawa and check in at the hotel. Afternoon visits to the town famous for the ancient Haweli painted in the Shekawati style. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 04: MANDAWA – JAIPUR (185 km. 4 hours approx)
Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Jaipur, upon arrival check-in at the hotel, Afternoon visit the famous monkey temple (Galta Ji Mandir or simply the Monkeys temple). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 05: JAIPUR
Breakfast at the hotel and whole day dedicated to visiting the “pink city”, the capital of Rajasthan, a first-rate commercial and tourist hub, today a center of at least 1,300,000 people, located in a semi-desert area. Jaipur is striking because it is architecturally ordered according to precise geometries. It is famous for its pink sandstone buildings, but it seems that the name derives from an episode of 1876, when Jaipur was repainted pink for the visit of the Prince of Wales. The first visit will be made to the Amber Fort, 11 km. from Jaipur. The last part of the climb to the Fort is covered on the back of placid elephants to better enter the spirit of the places. Inside the walls you can visit palaces and pavilions of refined beauty and the small temple of the Goddess Kali. Then visit the city proper: the Observatory, full of exceptionally large instruments and where the “Sancrat” (the Prince of the Sundial), a 90-foot-tall gnomon, is found; to the Palazzo del Vento, which stands on one of the main streets of the city, a curious elaborate and imaginative palace but at the same time a clear example of oriental art also built with “desert stone”; and finally visit the Maharaja’s Palace dating back to 1570. DAY 06: JAIPUR – ABHANERI – FATEHPUR SIKRI – AGRA (232 km. 5 hours approx)
Departure from Agra, stop for the visit of Abhaneri, where there is an ancient well-palace. 2nd stop in Fatehpur Sikri to visit the deserted 16th-century city, abandoned after only 14 years of its construction, with beautiful red sandstone buildings. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 07: AGRA
After breakfast visit of Agra and its famous monuments, first of all the Tomb of Akbar in Sikandra, the Agra Fort, home of the Mughal emperors. Afternoon visit the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders in the world, a magnificent marble dream that rises in the middle of a lush garden like a pearl in some kind of immaculate landscape. Its beauty transcends all description, built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjehan in 1631 in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died during the birth of his 14th son after 17 years of marriage. To erect the monument, precious stones of all kinds, pearls, and corals were collected, and 20.00 of the best craftsmen were called from all over the kingdom, who took 22 years to complete this masterpiece. DAY 08 : AGRA – ORCHA – KHAJURAHO
Transfer to railway station and departure by Bhopal Shatabadi train at 08:11 am to Jhansi (2 stops in between) arrival in Jhansi at 10:45 am, meet our representative and then visit Orccha which was the capital of one feudal state in the 17th century. We will visit: Raj Mahal, Rai Parveen Mahal and Jahangir Mahal, built by various Maharajas in a style reminiscent of Rajasthani architecture. Transfer by car to Khajuraho (190 km. Approximately 4 hours), the ancient capital of the Chandela dynasty. Arrive Khajuraho and check into hotel. In the afternoon, visit its superb temples. These embrace a period of time between 950 and 1050 AD. They have a completely different architectural structure from other Hindu temples. these temples, they bear erotic sculptures that refer to tantrism, an initiatory-esoteric doctrine according to which “Nirvana” can be reached through the control of physical pleasure as well as with spiritual and meditative discipline. DAY 09 : KHAJURAHO – VARANASI
Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning for individual activities. In good time, transfer to the airport and departure by flight to Varanasi (Benares), the “Holy City” par excellence of the country. It rises on the confluence of two rivers, the Varauana and the Asi and is bathed by the waters of the Ganges. Expected arrival at 14:35, meeting with our local representative and following visit with local Italian speaking guide of the archaeological site of Sarnath, place of the Buddha’s first preaching. Hotel accommodation and afternoon visit to the Ghat to attend the evening prayer. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 10 : VARANASI – DELHI
Wake up before dawn. Boat ride on the Ganges River to witness the purification rituals and offerings of pilgrims to the rising sun. Walking tour of the ancient city with stops at the Golden Temple and the Aurangzeb Mosque. Return for breakfast, morning at leisure, in good time transfer to the airport and departure for Delhi by scheduled flight. Arrival in Delhi and dinner in a local restaurant near the airport. After dinner transfer to the international airport.
DAY 11: DELHI – ITALY
Departure with scheduled flight to Italy and overnight on board. In the early morning arrival in Italy.
