NEPAL AND TIBET - 12 DAYS

A journey between monasteries and mountains, spirituality and nature in their essence… you can touch the sky with a finger, not for the sudden and unaware rise but for the state of happiness and serenity that is reached in a short time by admiring people and landscapes, and slowly, walking.

DAY 01: ITALY – KATHMANDU

Departure from Italy with scheduled flight. Overnight on board.

DAY 02: KATHMANDU

Upon arrival in Kathmandu meet with our representative and transfer to a selected hotel. In the morning excursion to Bhaktapur also known as Bhadgaon. This town is one of the most representative in the area of ​​the Kathmandu valley, rich in precious sacred monuments. Afternoon in Pashupatinath, a sacred place for the Nepalese, a town that stands on the banks of the sacred Bagmati river and where cremations take place. Visit the wonderful Bodhnath stupa. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 03: KATHMANDU – LHASA

In the morning, the flight to Lhasa. Lunch on board. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel. The afternoon is dedicated to rest and acclimatization. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 04: LHASA

In the morning, excursion to the Drepung Monastery, the largest in Tibet and still today an important center of study. Lunch in the restaurant. In the afternoon visit the Jokhang temple located in the heart of Lhasa and dating back to the 8th century and the typical Tibetan market of Barkhor. Dinner and overnight in Kyichu Hotel.

DAY 05: LHASA

A whole day dedicated to visits: – the imposing Potala, a symbol of the Lamaist power. It was the winter palace of the Dalai Lama and is located in a position where it is visible from all corners of the city. Visit of the Sera monastery, second largest after Drepung and famous because here the monks reproduced the sacred Tibetan texts and of the Norbulinka, the summer residence from which the Dalai Lama fled into exile. Lunch in a restaurant and dinner in a restaurant with local dances. Overnight in Kyichu Hotel.

DAY 06 : LHASA – GYANTSE (259 km, about 8 hours)

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the Tsangpo in Chusul, from where we go up to the Kampa La pass (4794m), from which we can enjoy a splendid panorama of the blue waters of Lake Yamdrok Tso (4450m). Descend along the lake until you reach Samding. The convent, located on a ridge, offers wonderful views over the lake. Climb up the Karo La pass (5010m), spectacularly enclosed between Ralung Ri (6236m) and Nozing Khang Sa (7223m). Arrive at Gyantse (3900m) once the control center for caravans is bound for Bhutan and Sikkim. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 07: GYANTSE – SHIGATSE (93 Km, 3 hours approx)

Breakfast at the hotel and morning visit of the Kumbum stupa, the largest “Chorten” existing in Tibet with its magnificent 73 frescoed rooms with 27,000 figures of Buddhist iconography, an expression of Newari art. The stupa is connected to the Palkor Chode monastery. In the afternoon continue to Shigatse (3900m, 90km), with a short detour to Shalu Monastery, which retains an ancient atmosphere with wonderful frescoes. Once in Shigatse, visit the grandiose Tashilumpo monastery, full of priceless treasures, which was founded by the first Dalai Lama in 1447 and was the historical seat of the Panchen Lama. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 08: SHIGATSE – SAKYA – SHEGAR (245 Km, 8 hours approx)

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning visit the Nartang monastery, which dates back to the 12th century and contains a precious collection of wooden matrices of the Tibetan Buddhist Canon, and the Sakya monastery, built between 1268 and 1365 and among the most interesting in Tibet. Crossing the Gyatso La pass (5220m) we enter the Himalayan range to reach Shegar (4300m). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 09: SHEGAR – ZANGMU (250 Km, about 8 hours)

Breakfast at the hotel. Visit the Shegar Dzong and continuation beyond the last two passes of Lalung La (4900 m) and Tang La (5050 m) where, good weather permitting, it will be possible to observe the spectacular peaks of the best known 8000m: Everest, Cho Oyu and Shisha Pangma. Descent towards Nyalam and Zhangmu (2400 m), with a visit to the cave and monastery of the poet-mystic Milarepa. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 10: ZANGMU – KATHMANDU (145 Km, about 3 hours)

Customs formalities for entry into Nepal and continuation to Kathmandu. The journey takes place through the Nepalese tropical forest. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 11: KATHMANDU

After breakfast, the whole day is dedicated to visits to the main places of interest in the city. Stops will be made at the Durbar Square; to the Palace of the Child Goddess, Kumari, and the wonderfully large Swayambhunath stupa, said to be 2,500 years old. For centuries this area was an important center of Buddhist Sudra studies. In the afternoon, visit the city of Patan. This city, three miles from the capital, is considered the artistic city par excellence in the country. Rich in Buddhist monuments and palaces adorned with wood carvings and sculptures, it is said to have been founded in 299 AD. Of Patan are to remember: the Hianya Varna Mahavihar, a temple of the seventh century; the Hindu temple of Shiva, in the courtyard of which there is a source of natural water; the Vishnu temple, rich in ancient religious paintings; the Durbar Square, once the center of power of the Malla kings; the 13th-century Machendra Nath Temple; and finally the Stupa of Ashoka, one of the four erected in Patan to commemorate the pilgrimage of this emperor in the Kathmandu valley in 246 BC. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 12: KATHMANDU – ITALY

In the morning visit the stupa of Bodhnath and Pashupatinath, the “Benares of Nepal”. At the end continue to Kathmandu. Arrival and transfer to the international airport. Departure with scheduled for Italy
