TRIP TO BHUTAN AND NORTH-EAST INDIA- 17 DAYS
In the southern part of India, bounded to the east by the Western Ghats and to the west by the azure waters of the Arabian Sea, lies the state of Kerala, the country of coconuts. The region, of Kerala, is famous for its natural beauty, with dense forests, verdant hills, and lakes surrounded by extensions of palm trees, rivers, and lagoons. This a short but complete itinerary for those who want to savor the natural and cultural beauties of Kerala.
01st DAY: ITALY – DELHI
Departure from Italy with a flight to Delhi. Upon your arrival in Delhi, a representative from our office will come to welcome you and take you to the hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
DAY 02 : DELHI
After breakfast at the hotel, start of the visits of Old Delhi (Shahajahanabad), the Red Fort, the Friday Mosque “Jama Masjid” with an exciting ride on the pedal rickshaw in the narrow and crowded streets of Old Delhi. Following visit to New Delhi with its most important monuments: the government buildings of the colonial era in front of the India Gate, the Mausoleum of Emperor Humayun, and the Qutub Minar complex. Overnight.
DAY 03 : DELHI – PARO
Full board: Early in the morning, departure for Paro by flight, arrival in Paro, meeting with our local representative and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure for personal activities. Overnight at Hotel.
DAY 04 : PARO
Full board: Morning visit Drunkgyel castle, then visit Takstang, the “Tiger’s Nest”. Afternoon visit Ta Dzong, National Museum and Paro Dzong. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 05: PARO – THIMPU
Full board: Departure for Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, with houses all rigorously in style and dominated by the imposing Dzong Simtokha, built in 1627. Full day dedicated to visiting this city where time seems to be stopped, of the temples and the interesting bazaar. Overnight at Hotel.
06th DAY: THIMPU
Full board: Full day dedicated to the visits of this beautiful city, its temples and nearby monasteries. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 07: THIMPU – PUNAKHA
Full board: Departure for Penzi-Là pass. From above you can see the Himalayan peaks. Descent into the Po Chu valley (River Padre). Visit Punakha Dzong and Wangdiphodrang Dzong (April to October and during the Festival period 14-17 February). Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
08th DAY: PUNAKHA
Full board: Whole day dedicated to the visits of the Punakha valley. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 09 : PUNAKHA – GANGTEY – TRONGSA
Full board: Crossing of the black mountains. Visit Gangtey Monastery (Closed in winter). Accommodation at hotel in Trongsa. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 10 : TRONGSA – BUMTHANG
Full board: Visit of Trongsa Dzong, the castle from which the royal family of Bhutan comes from. Afternoon, continuation to the Bumthang region from which Buddhism spread to Bhutan. Hotel accommodation at Bjakar Dzond. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 11: BUMTHANG
Full board: Visit the Bjakar Dzong and the oldest temples in Bhutan (7th – 8th century AD). Bumthang Valley Walk. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 12 : BUMTHANG – PARO
Full board: Long crossing of Western Bhutan from Bjakar Dzong to Paro. Afternoon city and valley tour with excursion to Pa Chu Drugyel Dzong and Taktsang; non-trivial walk up to the ‘Tana della Tigre, place of meditation of the famous monk Tsongkapa. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
13th DAY: PARO – PHUNTSHOLING
Full board: Descend by car from m. 1800 of Paros to m. 300 of Phuntsholing, a town on the border with India. The landscapes, the vegetation change continuously. In the afternoon visit the Zangtho Pelri Lhakhang temple and the town with the colorful market. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 14 : PHUNTSHOLING – KALIMPONG
Full board: After breakfast departure for Kalimpong. The route winds through the intense green of forests and hills for tea plantations. Arrival and accommodation at the hotel. Rest of the day dedicated to visits to the market, the Buddhist temple and the Durpin Dara viewpoint, the highest point of the city, from where, on clear days, you can admire the Himalayan peaks. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 15 : KALIMPONG – GANGTOK
Full board: After breakfast departure for Gangtok. still through green forests and hills planted with tea. Arrival in Gangtok (1547 m.), one of the last Himalayan capitals not yet touched by mass tourism, and hotel accommodation. Rest of the day dedicated to visiting the Tibetan Research Institute, the Royal Chapel of the Tsuk -la -Khang monastery, and the Deer Park. Nearby we will visit the Enchey monastery which dominates the city from above. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 16:GANGTOK – DELHI
Full board: Morning excursion to the Rumtek monastery (km 25 – about an hour’s journey). In the afternoon flight to Delhi. After dinner in a typical Indian restaurant, transfer to the international airport.
DAY 17: DELHI – ITALY
Early morning return flight to Italy.
